Nordlys Frax Laser®

The Nordlys Hybrid System uses intense pulsed light (IPL) for hair removal and photo facials to treat skin discoloration issues. In addition to IPL, Nordlys also uses IPL to treat large vessels, acne, scars and skin ageing.

The Nordlys has three technologies; an IPL (light), a Frax 1550 laser, and a Nd:YAG 1064 laser. With these technologies, Nordlys is able to treat issues that otherwise would require several different devices.

The Nordlys may also be less painful than other light treatment options. The versatility of the Nordlys Hybrid System allows for 17 different uses, addressing 80% of cosmetic concerns. Nordlys treatments include Spider Veins, Port Wine Stains, Haemangiomas, hair removal, sun damage, rosacea, and other Vascular Lesions.

Q&A:

It is important to avoid sun exposure for one month before and one month after treatment. Sun exposure may cause you to hyper pigment and possibly burn, and it counteracts the positive effects of your Nordlys Hybrid Experience.

If you have darker skin, it is often advised to pre-treat with a bleaching agent as prescribed by your physician. This should be administered one month prior to treatment and continued as directed after your treatment.

If you have a history of oral herpes (cold sores) you will be prescribed an antiviral medication to start on the day of treatment.

Do not take non-essential blood thinners for one week prior to treatment. Do not smoke in the 6 hours before treatment.

Most patients find the treatments to be tolerable with only mild discomfort compared to other similar technologies. Topical numbing creams are only recommended during the FRAX 1550 Resurfacing treatments. Overall, most patients report pain at a 3-5 on the 1-10 pain scale.

Treatment times vary between 5 and 60 minutes depending on the treatment and are being addressed. Patients undergoing the treatment may need to arrive one hour prior to their scheduled treatment for the application of a topical numbing agent.

After the treatments, slight erythema (redness) will persist for 1-3 days. The skin may feel warm or even swollen. Cooling the skin with an ice pack may be comforting and can be applied as needed on the day of your treatment.

Pigmented areas will become darker through the 3 days after treatment. These areas take on a peppery or coffee-ground appearance and will slowly slough off over the first 10 days after treatment. Makeup may be worn the day after your treatment.

It is important to have a medical history completed during your initial consultation to discuss possible contraindications to treatment. In general, individuals with the following conditions should not be treated with the Nordlys Hybrid System:

● People taking photosensitizing drugs
● Sun exposure in the month before treatment
● Presence of spray tan or self-tanner
● Active infection and/or injury in the intended treatment area
● History of abnormal scarring (keloids, thick scars, discoloured scars)
● Skin cancers in the intended treatment area
● Tattoos in the intended treatment area
